Chia Amisola (b. 2000, Manila) is an internet & ambient artist and designer devoted to the internet’s loss, love, labor, and liberation. Their (web)site-specific practice (websites, tools, performance) posits creation as synonymous with liberation. They touch on the defaults, opacities, and infrastructural intimacies of the internet as an ecology, territory, and atmosphere.
In their 'internet ambient', their dense / durational / networked desktop readings activate hypertext as performance. All their atmospheres reveal emergent counternarratives, intimacies, and proximities once unseen.
( Mostly, they want to gather all the people they love in one place, and build an internet that could be that place. )
They founded Developh (a community of critical practice for Filipino technologists, established in 2016) and the Philippine Internet Archive (nurturing publications & interventions preserving network cultures). KAKAKOMPYUTER MO YAN!, their most recent initiative, is an exhibition with 20+ artists on third-world internet cultures curated, developed, and organized by Amisola.
